Remembrance Day in Port Coquitlam

Remembrance Day is a day to honour Canadians who have fought for their country and to remember past wars.

In 2023 the event included a parade starting at 10:00 am. This was followed by a service at Veterans Park at 2580 Shaughnessy Street. See the 2023 Remembrance Day Program for more details.

In pre-COVID years the Remembrance Day events in Port Coquitlam have begun with an indoor service at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre at 2150 Wilson Avenue at 9:30 am. The ceremony was about an hour long. Following the service at the community centre, veterans, police officers, cadets and members of the local Royal Canadian Legion  paraded down Wilson Avenue and then Shaughnessy Street. The parade concluded at the Cenotaph at Veterans Park in front of Port Coquitlam’s City Hall.

In past years the formal Remembrance Day ceremonies have taken place at the Cenotaph at Veterans Park (after the event at the community centre), and this is where the November 11th activities happened in 2023. They started at around 10:00 am and ran until about noon. The ceremonies include the traditional two minutes of silence and laying of wreathes.

Tips & Advice

Below are some tips to help you make the most of your November 11th experience in Port Coquitlam.

TIP #1: The ceremony at Veterans Park is outdoors, so dress for the weather. It may be cold and/or raining, so jackets and umbrellas are recommended.

TIP #2: Similar to other events, there are road closures for the parade. Plan your route ahead of time, or take public transit to avoid the traffic.

TIP #3: Don’t forget to wear your poppy.
